Marimekko - FINLAND
1949 Marimekko began as a textile printing company called "Printex". They were known for bold prints and patterns, meant to stand out from the rest.
1951 Was Marimekkos first fashion show was designed by Ritta Immonen, who made prints from different Finnish artists. A few days after this show Marimekko registered as a company and opens shop in Helsinki Finland one year later.
1953 Marimekko hired Vuokko Eskolin - Nurmesniemi was hired to help develop new ways to mass produce and revolutionize the way Finns dress.
1954 The Marimekko label was born.
1960 Jacqueline Kennedy buys seven Marimekko dresses.
between 1960- current many deisgners were hired on to create unique prints/patterns and visions
1985 Amer Group acquired Marimekko
1991 Kirsti Paakkanen buys Marimekko
2006 Marimekko opens its first store in Japan
2009 Oiva tablewear is launched
2011 Online store Opens
