I recently was contacted by an 85 year old woman living in Berkeley, CA. I went to her house to look through a 1970's vintage collection of items from Iran, Pakistan, Ecuador and India. The items came from her personal collection that were left over from her and her husbands import business. She was very knowledgable and gave me a story from each piece I purchased. Our weather has been very extreme these past few months. How do you dress and/shop when the weather is so unpredictable? Layers, cotton and versatility. Tank tops and t shirts are a great staple item to have that can layer easily for all weather conditions. Long skirts are also great because you can pair with a tank top or a turtleneck sweater plus boots or sandals. Having a versatile wardrobe that has layer forward clothing options will keep you cool and clothed for this 85 degree weather in March.

Leather grades describe quality based on hide section.

Full Grain. Highest quality, using the entire outer layer. Very durable.

Top Grain. The second layer, sanded or buffed to remove imperfections. making it smoother and more uniform. 

Split Grain. Suede. The inner layers lefter after splitting the top grain. 

Genuine Leather. Made from the split layers. its real leather but lower quality. often textured.

Bonded leather. lowest grade. made from leather scraps ground into pulp and bonded together. least durable and the most affordable. 

- Higher grades ( full and top grain) are more durable and expensive. Lower grades ( genuine bonded ) are cheaper but wear out faster. 

When shopping for the holidays we don't want to buy junk and throw away items. Shopping with sustainability in mind creates less waste and senseless gift shopping. Shopping with intention is the way to go. A candle, chapstick, reusable bag, nail polish, socks etc.
