People often ask how and where I source my clothing, shoes and accessories. . After 20 years in business and being a buyer for more than 26 years I am ready to share what I have learned. I am working on a more in depth source guide that will be shared upon completion. This will include the ins and outs of the buy, sell and trade world. Plus more information and resource guides on everything i've learned in the last 20 plus years in this business. As I complete each section of information I will release it on my Shopify website in digital form. This has become a bigger project than I had anticipated and I am here for it, its just going to take more time than I had initially thought. Living in the Bay Area our summer starts in September so how do you dress when its August 28th and 81 degrees out during the day and in the 50's at night. As a small business owner in the East Bay of Californias Berkley Area we are very in tune with our weather patterns. For those of you who don't know our summer starts in September, although we have warm but mild days in the months of July and August it stays relatively temperate. This makes it difficult to keep a relevant inventory as it pertains to current weather conditions. So as always we keep out mid weight vintage Pendleton jackets and summer shorts and tank tops. Mondays are for behind the scenes for small businesses. These days many small businesses are closed so they can catch up on paperwork, ordering and organizing. Like them I am trying to teach myself shopify marketing today. I am wondering as I dig myself deeper into it why I haven't just hired someone to help me. Well...... money I don't know where to start to find someone plus I can't afford another expense for the shop. So here I am in a cafe trying to figure out shopify on my "day off". 1949 Marimekko began as a textile printing company called "Printex". They were known for bold prints and patterns, meant to stand out from the rest.
1951 Was Marimekkos first fashion show was designed by Ritta Immonen, who made prints from different Finnish artists. A few days after this show Marimekko registered as a company and opens shop in Helsinki Finland one year later.
1953 Marimekko hired Vuokko Eskolin - Nurmesniemi was hired to help develop new ways to mass produce and revolutionize the way Finns dress.
1954 The Marimekko label was born.
1960 Jacqueline Kennedy buys seven Marimekko dresses.
